Worthys U15s Match Reports

1st December 2007
Worthys YFC (3) South Wonston Swifts (5)

This was a local cup derby with all the thrills that one would expect from a cup match.
Swifts proved to be the better prepared side going into this match and took hold of the game from the start. They continued to have most of the game in the first half and took a two-goal lead into break. Worthys worked hard after the break and pulled two goals back through Ashley Wilmott and Dan Rosher. However, Swifts gained the lead with a third goal soon afterwards. This did not stop the Worthys from pressing for an equaliser and they continued to press hard right up until the last minute of the game. A corner was awarded to the Worthys in the last minute of the game and Jamie Banks headed home the equaliser to make it 3-3 and take the game into extra time.
Swifts came out winners with two further goals (both Worthys own goals) in extra time to seal the win.
Man of the Match was Jamie Banks for a determined effort to keep the team in the match.

24th November 2007
Fordingbridge (3) Worthys YFC (1)

This was an evenly balanced game to start with and both teams had an equal number of chances to take the lead. However, Fordingbridge proved the more focused and took a 2-0 lead into the half time break. Worthys started the second half much brighter and put Fordingbridge under pressure on a number of occasions. A shot from Andy Temple was parried by the Fordingbridge Goalkeeper and tapped in by Olly Court.
Fordingbridge proved the stronger in the end, managing to grab a third goal on the break as Worthys pushed for an equaliser.
Man of the Match was Olly Court for his overall performance and for scoring the Worthys only goal.

17th November 2007
Worthys YFC (2) Bishops Waltham C (2)

This was an evenly balanced match between two teams struggling to make their mark within the U15s Division 2. The match jumped between 1-0 to Bishops Waltham, 1-1 and then 2-1 to Worthys right up until the last two minutes. However Bishops Waltham grabbed a late equaliser to stun the Worthys and take a share of the points.
Man of the Match was Adam Carrick for a solid display as left centre back.

10th November 2007
Hatch Warren AFC (5) Worthys YFC (1)

Worthys struggled to perform in this game against a strong Hatch Warren side and also the blustery conditions. Worthys fell behind to a 1st minute goal by Hatch Warren, but managed to contain them throughout the next 44 minutes before conceding a second goal a minute before half time. Worthys pulled a goal back after the break, but Hatch Warren proved to strong and Worthys conceded three further goals in the second half.
Man of the Match was Chris Turvey for a great performance in goal and keeping the score respectable.

13th October 2007
South Wonston Swifts (3) Worthys YFC (2)

The local derby with Swifts proved to be a very close encounter with the game closely balanced throughout. Swifts took an early lead that shook the Worthys into life and doubled their lead late in the first half. Worthys came to life in the second half and put constant pressure onto the Swifts defence and in the process bringing the score level. Worthys had plenty of chances to win the match, but were undone by a Swifts ‘breakaway’ goal late in the game.
Worthys were left stunned at the result, having got back into the match.

29th September 2007
Worthys YFC (2) Fordingbridge (3)

The Worthys continued their poor home record with another defeat against Fordingbridge.
The Worthys started brightly in the first half, taking a quick 2-0 lead and looking very comfortable. However, Fordingbridge pulled a goal back before half time with a wonder strike from their No3. This unsettled the Worthys.
The second half was poor by Worthys standards and they soon lost the lead to a renewed Fordingbridge. The Worthys were lucky to hold out to a 2-3 defeat.
Worthys missed their captain once again through injury for most of the match.
Man of the Match was Chris Turvey for a great performance in goal and keeping the score respectable.

22nd September 2007
Bishops Waltham C (0) Worthys YFC (6)

Worthys got back to winning ways with a great performance against Bishops Waltham C. The Worthys took the lead through a rare Matt Piper goal in his new position as right winger – a change from his usual goalkeeping role. Worthys made some great moves throughout the first half with the team dominating much of the play. Further goals from Andy Temple and Dan Rosher gave the team a 3-0 lead at half time.
Worthys continued to play well throughout the second half, put some great passing moves together and having numerous chances to increase their lead. The defence was solid and the midfield worked well together in the absence of injured captain Jamie Banks. Chris Turvey had a good game as stand-in goalkeeper, with relatively little to do at times. However, credit must be given to Bishops Waltham who did not give up and gave the Worthys a few scares during the second half.
Two further goals from Dan Rosher and a goal-line header from Tom Ross sealed a comfortable win for the Worthys.
Man-of-the-Match was hatrick hero Dan Rosher.

15th September 2007
Worthys YFC (2) Hatch Warren AFC (4)
Worthys struggled in their first home match of the season against a strong Hatch Warren side. Worthys quickly went 1-0 nil down to an early Hatch Warren goal and found it difficult to overcome this lead. The first half was poor from the Worthys perspective and they trailed 3-0 at the break.
The second half started better for the Worthys with two quick goals to bring the score to 2-3. However, the team relaxed after their second goal and Hatch Warren hit back immediately from the kick-off with a killer fourth goal to stun the Worthys.
Worthys did not give up and continued to press the Hatch Warren defence hard. They spent much of the last 30-minutes camped in the Hatch Warren half but could not break them down. The Worthys had numerous chances to regain control with the strikers clear on goal a number of times. Unfortunately, these were not taken and Hatch Warren held out for the win. It’s back to shooting practice for the Worthys at training from now on!
The Worthys were praised by their coaches for not giving up and for keeping going right up to the end of the match.
Match-of-the-Match was Tom Ross for a spirited effort.

Worthys started brightly with a great first-minute strike from Jamie Banks. However, some nervous play by the team gave Andover the opportunity to draw level and take a shock 2-1 lead into the break.
Worthys sorted themselves out during the half-time break and took a renewed confidence into the second half. Worthys grew in strength and were able to overhaul this deficit by taking the game with three further goals from Tom Ross, Dan Rosher and Ashley Wilmott.
Man of the Match was Jack Darnley for a strong defensive display.
