1.Introduction
The Worthys YFC recognises that volunteers give untold amounts of time freely to football and the intentions of the majority of people are honourable and their time and effort is to be encouraged and supported.
However, in recruiting volunteers it is important to remember that every person has the potential to abuse children or young people in some way.
For this reason we must take reasonable steps to implement sound recruitment and selection procedures. If followed, these guidelines will help to screen out those who are unsuitable for work with our children.

2.Recruitment Policy

Planning
- identify the role required, detailing the main tasks it involves and the skill and experience need to fulfil the role.

Advertising
- ensure any advertising reflects the relevant child protection policy and details the skills and experience required for the role.

Application Form
- consistent information should be collated on applicants and these forms should be reviewed by more than one person to ensure that fair scrutiny is observed. Applicants identity should be validated by checking a passport or driving licence.

Meeting Interview
- a meeting with the applicants is highly recommended prior to any recruitment decisions being made. This should be carried out by more than one official, using standard and consistent questions to establish attitudes and commitment to child welfare!

References
- at least two references should be requested and checked. One to verify previous involvement in football and one from the applicant’s place of work.
If the references raise any concerns the Child Protection Department will need to be contacted for further advice and guidance.

Criminal Record Bureau (CRB) Disclosures
The Worthys Club Child Protection Officer will deal with the applications for CRB Disclosures.

Post Recruitment
- once a new volunteer has been recruited, it is important to follow-up so as to ensure that:
病ny qualifications are substantiated eg. Certificates shown
付hey sign-up to the child protection policy and procedures, codes of conduct and best practice guidelines
付raining needs are identified and supported
病 written statement of their roles and responsibilities is agreed
付hey are mentored or observed to support them for a time
