27/02/10 South Wonston Swifts A 0-5

Straight from the start, the Swifts swooped down the wing, and got their beaks in front with a goal from Ryan Swinton. Worthys were lively with Hugo Cramoysan and Sam Andrew-Power looking sharp but it was definitely a Swift half. Could Worthys “tern” it round? Ollie Batchelor increased the lead when he slid the ball into the back of the “nest”. Worthys found it hard to “swallow” but kept the pressure up with some well-taken corners that Michael Duncan managed to “curlew” into the box. Jacob Conroy and Kel Akpobire worked hard but the Worthys fell further behind when Adam Corcoran scored a corker. Further Worthy efforts were swiftly dealt with by keeper Ollie Freemantle who flew off his line to clear the danger. Pike tried from long range but it was not to be. Swift’s Corcoran scored once more to make it five.

13/02/10 Lyndhurst A 2-1

Worthys took control early in the first half with lots of pressure from Joel Barney and Kel Akpobire who chipped the ball to James Pike who was just over the bar. Before long Akpobire then scored Worthys first, assisted by Harvey McNaughton. The home team took their revenge with a nifty goal from Shaun McKenna. Barney and Pike returned the tension to Lyndhurst’s end, but were kept out by the defence. In the second half Cameron Speirs was on fire with great energy and a near miss. Jacob Conroy passed to Akpobire who was denied, then took his own shot but was not quite close enough. Matthew Simkin was a keen defender for Worthys and Akpobire eventually took his second goal. End to end play was the name of the game towards the finish, both sides determined for another, Conroy and Speirs each had several near misses, but it was not to be.

06/02/10 Upper Clatford H 1-2

Worthys took the upper hand in the opening minutes with a great goal from Jonty Doyle assisted by Cameron Speirs. Pressure from Kel Akpobire and James Pike kept play in their hands. Harvey McNaugthon was strong in defence, but the visitors’ Camilla Dodson skilfully took the score to 1 all. Doyle came close again but goalie Findley Waite kept him out. In the second half, on the downhill pitch Upper Clatford gained the advantage and Worthys goalie Sam Morgan was kept on his toes. Jacob Conroy, Sam Andrew-Power and Michael Duncan kept up the pressure but play went into extra time. Some great teamwork was displayed, Speirs to Pike to Akpobire and William White had a narrow miss with a header from Akpobire’s corner but Upper Clatford’s Jacob Williams took the winning goal. Worthys were determined to rebound with long clearances from White, pressure and energy from Akpobire but the finishing touch was not quite there.

30/01/10 Fordingbridge H 1-3

Worthys started well, an early pass from Cameron Speirs to Jacob Conroy to Kel Akpobire, who was close on target but not enough. Pressure continued from both sides until an unfortunate handball in the box gave Fordingbridge a penalty, skilfully taken by Alex Lynch. Speirs took a great halfway shot, but too far. Michael Duncan was a robust defender and Fordingbridge were unlucky to miss goal. A Worthys moment of indecision was rewarded by a second goal to Fordingbridge from Nick Menning. Worthys James Pike's corner created hassle in Fordingbridge’s box but their goalie stood firm. Play continued tough and evenhanded, Pike and Matthew Simkin made a good try. Success eventually came to Akpobire with a well deserved goal, but Fordingbridge’s Ollie Quantick was quick to get their 3rd. Offside caught out both sides repeatedly when success seemed imminent, both goalies saved some tough balls but the victors were the away team.

23/01/10 CK Andover H 1-2

The first match in a month after snow, Christmas and more snow stopped play, Worthys were keen to show their mettle but CK were not ready to “Andover” the points. The visitors were quick to attack but were found to be off-side. Harvey McNaughton and James Pike fought back for Worthys but were just short. Play was even handed initially with no goals before half time. After the break Jacob Lock for Andover won the first goal of the match. Worthys Jacob Conroy was full of energy, aided by Michael Duncan and Sam Andrew-Power but not quite hitting the mark. Before long Conor Mumford scored Andover’s second. Keen for revenge Worthys retaliated, Jonty Doyle clearing the ball to Duncan whose shot was denied but the rebound brought Conroy a fantastic goal. Duncan had another near miss and William White and Kel Akpobire were tough defenders, the ball stayed in the CK end but despite admirable determination another goal was not to be.

05/12/09 Fordingbridge A 0-3

Away once more to Fordingbridge, this time for the Jon Holman Cup, Worthys again put up a good fight but were unable to break the home team’s defence With Mark Ridge in goal, Worthys repelled a number of good shots, William White was impressive in mid-field, but Nick Menning for Fordingbridge eventually got his break with their first goal. Jonty Doyle and Matthew Simkin shored up the defence to keep the score to 1-0 til half time. Just into the second half Harvey McNaughton was unlucky when his shot for Worthys hit the post. Jacob Conroy took some admirable saves for Worthys and Michael Duncan was a keen defender, but Ollie Quantick was successful in his bid for glory. Sam Andrew-Power put in some great tackles and Hugo Cramoyson made a skilful cross, but it was Dominic Bowden-Smith for Fordingbridge who took the third and final goal

28/11/09 Lyndhurst H 2-0

Having previously suffered a defeat away to Lyndhurst, Worthys exacted their revenge on home ground. Starting well, Kel Akpobire avoided several tackles down the wing, only to be pipped in the last few yards. Jonty Doyle and Joel Barney combined well on the left resulting in a 6 th minute goal for Doyle. Worthys Akpobire took a great cross, headed by James Pike, just missing the mark. Cameron Speirs took a great long-range shot from halfway, making the Lyndhurst goalie reach high for his fine save. After half-time, Lyndhurst, now playing downhill, had a good try but were outwitted by Worthys goalie, Sam Morgan. Doyle (The Riverdancer) bossed the mid-field. Michael Duncan put in a good cross to Pike, but again was denied. A Worthys penalty, converted by Doyle, put the home team out of reach. In the closing minutes, Lyndhurst headed over the bar from, a brilliant corner, leaving Worthys to celebrate.

21/11/09 Fordingbridge A 0-3

Away to Fordingbridge, Worthys put up a good fight. The home team were quick to take possession, Ollie Davis swerving round Worthys defenders to score the first goal. Worthys counter-attacked, Michael Duncan having a near miss. Worthy’ goalie, Sam Morgan, battled hard with some impressive saves but a persistent push from Fordingbridge forced another. In a period of sustained pressure by the Worthys, Duncan tried again, but was denied. James Pike came close to bringing the Worthys back into the match, but his searing drive, from the edge of the penalty area, hit the top corner of the post. After half-time Fordingbridge took control once again. Weaving between the opposition, Nick Menning tapped in their third. Matthew Simkin kept up a good defence for the rest of the match, repelling the ball repeatedly. James Pike and Kel Akpobire were brave against the home team’s defenders but were thwarted in their attempts.

07/11/09 Hatch Warren A 0-3

Hatch Warren started with the run of play, with Worthys goalie Sam Morgan needing to demonstrate his impressive skills within the opening minutes. William White and Mark Ridge were also kept on their toes in defence. Jonty Doyle showed his form with regular displays of intricate footwork on the wing, but before too long, Hatch Warren’s Matt Carter put away the first goal. During the second half Doyle took a couple of admirable free kicks, but Hatch Warren’s goalie was on the ball and kept them out. Harry Butler scored number 2. Worthys Kel Akpobire was swift and adept on the wing, getting close on goal on various occasions, but not quite hitting the spot. Doyle continued with assiduous tackles and Jacob Conroy took an impressive header but Worthys were unable to break the Hatch Warren defence and their Ryan Jones scored the 3rd goal of the game.

24/10/09 Whitchurch H 0-1

A fiery start on a rain soaked pitch saw the bulk of the play at Worthys end initially. Michael Duncan took the play in the other direction, but unfortunately his shot was over the bar. William White was a rock in defence but nearing half time, Whitchurch’s Shaun Freun took their goal. Worthys retaliated in the second half with another near miss by Duncan followed by a counter-attack from Whitchurch, over the bar. Joel Barney was strong in Worthys defence. James Pike, Jonty Doyle and Duncan all piled on the pressure, but none of their shots quite hit the mark before the full time whistle.

17/10/09 Shipton Bellinger Rams A 0-4

Worthys started well with a near miss from Michael Duncan, countered by a similar attempt by the Rams in the first few minutes. Worthys Sam Morgan made some fantastic saves and Duncan was notable by his nifty footwork around the opposing players. But before long Luke Andrews took Rams first goal. After substantial pressure around the Worthys goal, keeping Sam Morgan very much on his toes, Charlie Rogers got the second past him.The pressure continued and despite valiant attempts to keep it out, an own goal was conceded. Sam Andrew Power countered with a near miss and Cameron Spiers took a shot that just went over the bar. The second half continued in the same vein, Morgan kept at full strength, Matthew Simpkin and Joel Barney putting up an admirable defence, but Callum Duff, a tough act in previous matches, scored the 4th to secure a very safe home win.

10/10/09 South Wonston Swifts H 2-0

Worthys came out fighting for the first round of the Hampshire Cup, attacking early with a near miss by William White. This was followed by The Swifts flying down the pitch, but Worthys goalie, Sam Morgan got to the ball just in time.  A Worthys free kick gave Michael Duncan a chance with a long ranging shot, but was headed over the bar.   After further pressure at the Swifts end, James Pike scored the first goal.  Shortly before half time, Cameron Speirs took a corner, and despite the Swifts attempts to clear the ball, William White scored with a header for Worthys.  In the second half, there was no let up, both teams putting up a strong fight.  Swifts made many attempts on the Worthys goal, but great defensive skills from Jacob Conroy and Harvey McNaughton, with support from Jonty Doyle and Cameron Speirs, kept the score at 2-0.

03/10/09 South Wonston Swifts H 1-2

Swifts started well with lots of pressure at Worthys’ goal but were held away by the defence. Worthys briefly took control, before Swifts’ Cai Povey pushed back with the first goal. Worthys’ Michael Duncan fired a good cross but short of the net, Swifts had a near miss with a brilliant shot, saved by Worthys’ goalie Sam Morgan. A hiccup from Worthys gave Swifts a penalty, admirably taken by Adam Corcoran to get their second. After half time, Duncan took a free kick at goal but was denied. Willam White struck a high arching, long-range shot, just saved by Swifts’ keeper. Joel Barney for Worthys saved the keeper’s blushes on a couple of occasions keeping the ball out. Kel Akpobire came on as a fresh pair of legs and within minutes had scored a “Worthy” goal. They regained the upper hand, but time ran out for the home team.

26/09/09 Lyndhurst H 1-4

The home team took a flying start with an early goal from Tom Smart. Worthys fought back and had a near miss, but Lyndhurst’s George Hoskins took advantage of a floored Worthys keeper to get their second. Worthys stepped up the pressure at Lyndhurst’s end, where Jacob Conroy narrowly missed and Joel Barney pressed hard but could not quite put it away. Hoskins took the 3rd straight after half- time but then Michael Duncan, in his debut for the Worthys, made a fantastic run, evading attempted tackles and scored for his new team. Mark Ridge defended well and Duncan had some more star moments but could not repeat his performance. Charlie Baker claimed Lyndhurst’s 4th goal and despite a late great run down the wing, Kel Akpobire was unfortunate not to gain a return. Worthys played their best game so far this season, but were unlucky in their finishing touches.

19/09/09 Fordingbridge H 0-3

Worthys U11s were up against the mighty New Forest team Fordingbridge this week. On the defence in the first half, Worthys fielded Mark Ridge and William White, keeping away the shots, often chasing back from half way up the field. After a few near misses, an own goal was conceded after heavy pressure from the away team’s Nick Menning. Jonty Doyle displayed his powerful shots in both clearing the ball away from the Worthys line and in some great, but not quite close enough, free kicks. In the second half Worthys fought back but another goal was conceded to Fordingbridge. Worthys took 3 consecutive corners, but the Fordingbridge defence was too strong. Jacob Conroy kept out a few and Worthys’ goalie Sam Morgan was heroic in some of his flying saves, but Nick Menning eventually got his goal to finish 3 up.

 12/09/09

 CK Andover

 H

 1-6

Worthys U11s struggled this week in their first league game this season, coming to terms with the off-side rule. They made a good attacking start, in the first 5 minutes, but short-lived when CK’s Jamie Hewitt scored his first of three goals. Andover took control of the game, playing slightly downhill but, despite good defending from Mark Ridge, they pounded on the pressure. Sam Andrew-Power was determined not to let the opposition through, still tackling once knocked to the ground, but Hewitt got his second. Worthys made a good attempt with a great pass from Cameron Speirs to Kel Akpobire, but unfortunately over the bar. Worthys Jonty Doyle scored a brilliant penalty after handling in the box, but CKs Conor Mumford soon got their third with a backwards header. Downhill in the second half, Worthys didn’t quite regain their stride and finished 6-1 down.
