06/05/10 Amesbury Town Testway Cup Final at Andover New Street 0-2 On a dry, cold night Worthys took on Amesbury Town for the Testway Cup. Worthys were disappointed to lose Ciaran McCullagh with a knee injury and Alex Watton through a crazy refereeing decision to not allow any wearing of glasses early in the piece but Alex Cornford and Kane Orchard both stepped up to the mark despite having to play out of position. Both sides were committed in the opening exchanges with honours very much even all over the pitch. Amesbury carried the slightly greater goal threat in the first half hour but Jordon Banks showed what a good keeper he is with a great command of his area. The referee continued to bemuse the watching spectators with some poor decisions not least when a senseless challenge on Ben Allen was left to go by. Most of the first half was played out in the middle of the park where Sam Carr and Alex Fyfe were tenacious in the tackle and were instrumental in releasing Patrick O'Mara for a run on the Amesbury defence on more than one occasion. Ben Clarke had his A game in play as he closed and harried space down the right flank. We were looking solid until 5 minutes before the break when an Amesbury break down the left produced a kind break of the ball in the box and allowed a shot to just beat Jordon. One Nil at half time. Worthys were under pressure at the start of the second half but the back four continued to play well. Harry Lewis in particular was in the mood to be first to every ball. Charlie Bell and Sam Bridge were strong in all they did. Just as Worthys had weathered the early pressure and started to build well themselves a long ball from the middle of the park was collected and finished off well to the left of Jordon to make the score two nil. Far from looking defeated Worthys battled hard for a goal which would change the tie. Both Charlie Sherwood and Alex Watton had chances near the end but the Amesbury keeper was in good form himself. Both Sam Carr and Patrick O'Mara were off near the end with bad cramp which showed the effort the team put in but credit to Amesbury who are a good side and were deserving winners overall on the night. Worthys can be proud of the way they performed tonight and for a non stop display showing how to defend Harry Lewis was awarded the man of the match medal.

24/04/10 Barton Stacey A 1-2

Worthys surrendered their seven match unbeaten run to a determined Barton Stacey side. The real story of this match though was the unfortunate leg break suffered by debutante Michael Weatherall. Just 5 minutes into the game a loose ball was contested by three players leaving Michael unable to move. The sight of an ambulance on the pitch was a sad one for sure. We wish Michael a speedy recovery - out for 2 months now. The game itself was a game of two halves. Barton the much hungrier in the first half and they deservedly led at half time 2 nil through two great attacking moves that were both finished with great aplomb. The second half was tighter but with Worthys seeing more of the ball. Patrick O'Mara chipped the home keeper to put Worthys back in the match but despite several chances Worthys were unable to find the back of the net again. For his energy and running all morning, Ben Clarke was the deserving man of the match.

27/03/10 Barton Stacey H 3-1 Worthys welcomed cup semi- finalists Barton Stacey to Eversley Park for this division 1 fixture. The home team started brightly and had two good headers from Alex Cornford and Charles Sherwood saved by the Barton keeper in the first 5 minutes. Ben Allen was biting into tackles to gain good ball for Worthys and it was fitting that Ben opened the scoring with a well timed lob after 10 minutes to put Worthys 1 nil up. Alex Watton was playing the simple ball well and it was from his pass that Patrick O'Mara had sight of the goal. His well placed shot squirting under the keeper to put Worthys 2 up. Two should of become three but Alex Cornford was denied by the inside of the post and a desperate goal line clearance. With a burst of heavy rain Worthys took the foot of the gas and some poor defending allowed Barton Stacey to reduce the arrears just before half time. Jordon Banks made a fine stop from the first shot but could do little to save the rebound being hammered into the net. Game on. Half time came at the right time for Worthys. The second half started as a very even game with chances at both ends. A Sam Carr through ball releasing Charles Sherwood through on goal being the best opportunity for Worthys. Jordon Banks made two fine finger tip saves to keep Worthys noses in front. We were saved a nervous final few minutes when Alex Cornford scored directly from a free kick, a well deserved goal for his efforts today. For his control of the game in front of the back four Alex Watton was named man of the match.
13/03/10 Hatch Warren Phoenix H 4-2

Testway Cup Semi-Final

We are on our way to Wembley  - or Andover New Street`s ground as the case may be to contest the league cup final !!

The mood was black before the game with our referee crying off an hour before kick-off, the wind and rain howling across Eversley Park and a bare eleven players turning up to play a team that have already beaten us twice comfortably earlier in the season. The bookmakers would have given us no chance. However, here was an eleven players that wanted to win and wanted to play for each other. The opening 5 minutes were tight and it was Worthys playing against the wind that had the first chances of the game - Alex Cornford and Patrick O'Mara both testing the away keeper. The home crowd held their breath when Patrick O'Mara outpaced the right back to go clear on goal but the angle proved too great and it was the side netting that rippled rather than the back of the net. Hatch Warren Phoenix came to life after 10 minutes and from good possession almost went ahead but the crossbar intervened much to the home team`s relief. From similar pressure the ball was safely gathered by Jordan Banks who launched a bomb of a ball down the centre. There was Patrick O'Mara guessing the bounce correctly and lifting the ball over the advancing keeper - One nil Worthys, game on. Alex Watton playing in front of the back four was immense today and won tackle after tackle and used the ball to great effect. One move released Ben Clarke down the right and his good work won a corner ball. A cleverly taken short corner found Alex Cornford in space on the right side of the box. His smashed shot across the goal found Charlie Bell who diverted the ball high into the Hatch net - 2 nil Worthys. The rest of the half was an even affair, Ben Allen, full of energy and running did a magnificent job in closing down space and winning good ball for Worthys. Half time and the score remained 2 nil to Worthys.

The second half started very differently with the away side full of attacking intent. Ryan Johnston,Sam Bridge and Ciaran McCullagh had their work cut out to stem the flow of attacks. When Hatch Warren found sight of goal Jordan Banks was fantastic making two point blank saves to keep our goal intact. The occasional raid from Worthys in the opening 20 minutes of the half allowed two good chances to fall to Worthys, Alex Cornford was denied by the inside of the post and Patrick O'Mara shooting narrowly wide. Phoenix kept threatening and it was no surprise when they pulled a goal back. A high corner in the Worthys box was not dealt with and despite a great initial stop from Jordan the ball broke to a Phoenix player who slammed the ball in the net. Far from dropping their heads, Worthys regathered some energy from somewhere and started to attack themselves. Charlie Sherwood run his heart out in the middle of the park to gain us good possession. He released Patrick O'Mara who took on the away defence. His shot was saved by the keeper but Patrick followed up to restore the two goal advantage - 3-1. Three became four quickly afterwards and again it was Patrick O'Mara showing his pace down the left flank. He opened his body well to shape the ball into the far corner - dreamy stuff 4-1! Still Hatch Warren Phoenix came at Worthys and a nervous last 10 minutes was in store when space was found in the Worthys penalty area to give Jordan Banks no chance - 4-2. The last few minutes showed Worthys at their very best, battling for every ball and header - just a great team effort.
Great match - all the players deserve a big pat on the back today but Ben Allen quite rightly edged the man of the match award. All the players had a decent shout to win this today.

06/03/10 Bishops Waltham Dynamos B H 9-1 Worthys entered this game on the back of a three match unbeaten run and were quickly into their stride. Patrick O'Mara raiding down the left played a ball across the box for Sam Carr to plant a left foot strike past the keeper. 1-0 Worthys with 5 minutes on the clock. Bishops Waltham were more than a match for Worthys for a ten minute spell after the goal and deservedly drew level when a free header in the box was guided into the far corner of the net. Game on. Sam Bridge was tackling hard on the right side of defence for Worthys and Alex Watton was relishing his role in the centre of the park. It was down the right flank that Worthys managed to open up the way team again, a cross from Ben Clarke found Ben Allen in front of goal. A hammer of a left foot strike put Worthys back in the lead. The rest of the first half was somewhat scrappy with neither team able to keep their foot on the ball for any length of time. 2-1 it finished at half time. A different Worthys team appeared at the start of the second period, the tempo and passing was much improved. Sam Bridge released Patrick O'Mara with a long ball over the top and he made little mistake in extending Worthys lead to 3-1. Three became four very shortly, again Patrick O'Mara was found and his pace enabled him to run through rounding the keeper before coolly slotting home. The good shape of our midfield enabled Worthys to keep coming forward and it was no surprise to see Patrick O'Mara complete his hat-trick on the hour mark. A crisp right foot effort this time. 5-1 to Worthys. Not to be outdone by hat-trick Patrick, Charles Sherwood now raiding down the right side of midfield scored a quick fire 10 minute hat-trick himself. His second a delightful strike from the apex of the box that finished in the far corner of the net. It was Sam Bridge charging forward before threading a ball through the Bishops Waltham defence that enabled Charles Sherwood to complete his hat-trick with an instinctive first time strike. At 8-1 Worthys were cruising and enjoying their football.
The final goal of the game was saved for debutante Alex Fyfe who had the led the line well in the second half - typical determination ensured he was first to the ball and his parried effort creep into the corner of the net. The game finished with the confidence boosting scoreline of 9-1. For his tough tackling and set up for four Worthy goals, Sam Bridge
was the popular man of the match- heart beat of the team today.

27/02/10 Andover New Street H 0-0

On a heavy pitch this game was an open affair with both sides having chances early on, Jordan Banks was in fine form and tipped a drive over the bar in the first few minutes. Worthys were content to play on the break and from such a move Patrick O'Mara almost opened the scoring with a shot that hit the bar. A carbon copy move again played Patrick O'Mara in but this time the keeper did brilliantly to parry the shot using his legs. Ben Allen and Harry Lewis worked hard to keep Worthys moving forward with some great tackling and energy but it was again Jordan Banks who keep Worthys in the game with a commanding performance between the sticks. Nil nil it finished with both sides having played their part in an open football game.
Jordan Banks for a fine display was the Worthys man of the match.

27/02/10 Andover New Street A 1-1 Worthys started this first game in a double header fixture slowly against a lively Andover side. After the first 10 minutes of frenetic play it was Worthys who created the first real chance when Kane Orchard and Patrick O'Mara combined well to release Alex Cornford, his shot was well saved by the New Street keeper. Soon after, Patrick O'Mara wriggled free outside the Andover box but his left foot drive was brilliantly tipped around the post for a corner. In a very open game both goalkeepers had to be on good form to keep the score nil nil at half time. Worthys started brightly in the second period and eventually got their reward when Alex Cornford battled to win the ball and then sent a precision chip over the Andover keeper - one nil to Worthys.
With time running out Andover pushed men forward and from a long ball into the box an excellent take and shot by the centre forward beat Jordan Banks to square the game. A very even game where a draw was a fair result. Alex Cornford for his tireless work rate and great goal was the deserving man of the match.
06/02/10 Lyndhurst

2-2

(3-0 on penalties)

Worthys welcomed division 2 high flyers Lyndhurst to Eversley Park for this quarter final tie in the Testway Cup. With this being the first football for some while, Worthys were understandably sluggish to start. A Patrick O'Mara volley and a Kane Orchard drive were the closest Worthys came in the opening exchanges. Better passing in the middle started to see Worthys dominate possession but still chances were hard to come by. Eventually, a loose ball found Charles Sherwood in space and with a cool head he chipped the advancing keeper to give Worthys a deserved half time lead. In the second period the game became more stretched as Worthys sort the comfort of a second goal and as Lyndhurst started to compete well in midfield. With 20 minutes remaining Lyndhurst won a corner. An excellent delivery and some panic in defence ended up with the equaliser being bundled over the line. Suddenly there was a game on our hands. As typifies a cup tie, a moment of controversy as well when Ciaran McCullagh was shown red for a professional foul despite winning the ball. Although later reduced to a yellow card offence the damage was done, Worthys down to ten. A great break down the left ended with a corner and from the resultant kick, Patrick O'Mara swivelled in the box to place the ball wide of the keeper, 2-1 with 10 minutes to go. Still Lyndhurst came forward and suddenly their central midfield had the ball in space and with a great left foot strike the ball was in the Worthys net - 2-2. The game finished square - onto penalties.
Three great penalties from our lads - Patrick O'Mara, Charlie Bell and Kane Orchard were enough to win this contest. Jordan Banks made one fine save from one of the Lyndhurst penalties. Into the semi final we go and for great leadership and a solid performance Charlie Bell was awarded the man of the match medal.

12/12/09 Amesbury Town H 1-3 A patched up Worthys side entertained high flying Amesbury Town at Eversley Park for this division 1 fixture. Despite having four regulars out, it was Worthys who imposed themselves on the game early on. Alex Cornford playing in his debut game was strong in the challenge up front for Worthys and it was through his persistence that Worthys won a throw deep into the Amesbury half after 5 minutes. A Charlie Bell special was knocked on at the near post to find Ben Allen galloping into the box. His firm left foot strike gave the keeper no chance and for Worthys it meant a one-nil lead. Great start. The game was strongly contested over the next half an hour, Amesbury found Jordan Banks in fine form when they did threaten - one shot tipped one handed over the bar was a great piece of football all round. Sam Bridge and Sam Carr were full of energy and kept the play even before a hopeful wing ball was played into the box to be met with a superb diving header to provide the games equalising goal. Just as it looked as if the teams would go into the break even Stephens, Worthys lost the ball in midfield and from a speculative centre the ball fell kindly for the away team and suddenly Worthys were two one down. The second half was full of endeavour from both teams with chances few and far between. The Worthys back four looked solid right up until some good wing play allowed the ball to be crossed into the box. A firm stooping header found itself nestling in the Worthys goal to stretch the away teams lead. Worthys battled well throughout but despite their effort the game failed to produce any more goals . Final result Worthys 1 Amesbury 3. For his tireless running and for making sure the away defence knew they had been in a game Alex Cornford was voted man of the match.

21/11/09 Bishops Watham Dynamos A H 0-5 Grey skies welcomed our Hampshire Cup opponents, Bishops Waltham Dynamo A to Eversley Park. The first 20 minutes of this game were evenly contested with both teams battling hard for possession. The first real chance of the game fell to Worthys but a snap shot following a quick break went wide. Bishops Waltham scored from their first chance when slack defending left the left winger with just Jordan Banks to beat. His left foot strike ending in the back of the net for one- nil. Straight from the re-start it should of been 2-nil but brave keeping ensured the ball sailed over the Worthys bar. Just before the break poor defending again let the away side profit from two more goals, both close range efforts. Worthys still had chances with Patrick O'Mara bringing a smart save from the Waltham keeper down at his right post. Pressure from a corner also presented an opportunity but the final strike from Toby Sanders was wide of the mark. Three -nil at half-time. The game remained open in the second period but with the confidence of a three goal cushion Bishops Waltham played the better football. Kane Orchard and Ben Allen were quick in the tackle and created chances for Worthys mid way through the half. The closest Worthys came to a deserved goal was a Ben Allen strike that hit the foot of the post and spun away to safety. An audacious Patrick O'Mara overhead kick on the penalty spot sailed high and wide late on. Bishops Waltham added two late strikes to give the score a gloss for them as they confidently marched into the quarter finals as five-nil victors. Man of the match for a commanding goalkeeping display went to the excellent Jordan Banks.

07/11/09 Shipton Bellinger Rams B A 4-2

Bright sunshine welcomed Worthys to Shipton Bellinger for this league cup game. The early pressure came from Worthys who were unlucky not to take the lead in the first couple of minutes. Ben Clarke was raiding well down the right for the away team. An injury set back to Toby Sanders affected the shape of the team and from Shipton`s first attack they scored a good goal. A simple through ball allowed the home striker to collect the ball in space and to slot calmly past Jordan Banks in goal. Worthys responded by hitting the bar from a Patrick O'Mara effort and the post from a Ben Allen effort - could it be one of those days? The home team were excellent in closing the space down and soon started playing some good passing football. With 5 minutes left of the first half the home team were rewarded when a passing move from one flank to the next lead to a low cross and a tap in for the advancing Shipton attackers. Two nil is how the teams went in at half time. What a difference a strong half time talk can make! With a commitment to get to the ball first Worthys upped the tempo considerably. Within a couple of minutes of the restart, a through ball by Kane Orchard set Patrick O'Mara away for a run on goal. From the angle of the box his low drive found the corner of the net to make it 2-1. Worthys were back in the game. With Ben Allen biting into the tackles and Alex Watton calmly controlling in front of the back four, Worthys continued to press. A quick short ball found Sam Carr inside the box, as his neat turn wrong footed the defender he was felled for an obvious penalty. Sam Carr stepped up himself to give the keeper no chance from the spot. This was more like it. More pressure won Worthys a corner half way into the second period. From Ben Clarke`s cross, Kane Orchard knocked the ball onto Patrick O'Mara who jinked inside the centre back before finishing well to put Worthys into the lead. Shipton responded well and the Worthys defence had to be on it`s game to repel several attacks. Kingsley Farrington had slotted in well at right back and with Harry Lewis and Charlie Bell winning every thing in the air Worthys continued to keep a clean sheet in the second period. As the home side searched for the equaliser, gaps started to appear at the back and from one such moment Patrick O'Mara skipped in to make the game safe with a strong finish. The final whistle confirmed Worthys as 4-2 winners. Alex Watton for his good positional discipline and distribution was named man of the match.

24/10/09 Hatch Warren Phoenix A 2-7 In driving rain and windy cold conditions Worthys travelled to league leaders Hatch Warren for this division one fixture. Player availability coupled with injuries meant that Worthys could only field a team of ten players but what a performance the ten put in. Playing a 3-1-4-1 formation the odds on escaping with our pride looked doomed after the first Hatch Warren attack. A splendidly weighted ball through the centre was finished with equal aplomb by the Hatch Warren striker for one nil. This seemed to galvanize our team in their efforts and for the next 35 mins we held the home team at bay. The back three of Sam Bridge, Charlie Bell and Ciaran McCullagh were tenacious in the tackle and showed determination in spade loads in defending our goal. When the back line was breeched, and this is a very good Hatch Warren side, birthday boy Jordan Banks showed great handling in tricky weather conditions. Just five minutes before half time though a quick brace by the home side meant that Worthys went into the break three nil down. This was tough on the likes of Ryan Johnston and Sam Carr who had worked their socks off in the middle but probably a fair reflection of the play at that point. Three soon became five at the start of the second half after some flowing attacking football by the home team as they took full advantage of our numbers. Still the Worthys kept their heads up and battled hard. Ben Clarke and Alex Watton were tracking and tackling hard to stem the tide. A fortunate sixth goal with 25 minutes to go had the touchline looking at their watches but as the home team stepped off the gas, Worthys started to make their own chances. First Patrick O'Mara beat two players from a through ball and stroked the ball in the back of the net for six one. After a quick reply from Hatch Warren, Worthys again got themselves on the score sheet when following persistence from Patrick O'Mara down the left his squared ball  found Sam Carr who finished on the stretch.
7-2 is how the game finished. All ten players deserved a pat on the back for their efforts today. However, for his ability to get stuck in from start to finish Ciaran McCullagh was voted man of the match.

17/10/09

Bishops Waltham Dynamos B

A 6-1

An early start for Worthys for this away league fixture against promoted Bishops Waltham B. In cold conditions Worthys started well in what was an open game of football. Crisp short passing was excellent and it was not long before Worthys created chances on the home goal. A move down the left flank ended with the ball being passed back to Toby Sanders just outside the box, his sweetly hit chip sailed over the keeper to give Worthys a deserved one nil lead. A Ben Allen, Patrick O'Mara passing move was struck by Sam Carr just wide for what would of been a great goal. After 10 minutes, the lively Patrick O'Mara was played in and a typical jinking run at the home defence ended with the ball in the back of the net. The first 20 minutes was without doubt the best football Worthys have played this season, more pressure down the left resulted in a corner. An excellent delivery from Ben Clarke was met by a powerful leap from Charlie Bell for three nil. Unfortunately, this was the last action of the game for Charlie as a twisted ankle meant he had to limp off. Alex Watton took over in the centre of defence and marshalled our back line well. A move starting from the back again released Patrick O'Mara who finished with a low drive to the keepers right. At four nil Worthys continued to play well but Bishops Waltham started to create chances themselves. Jordan Banks had to be at his best to make one great stop but was powerless on half time when an inch perfect cross from the left was met with a low stooping header to reduce the arrears to four one. That`s how it stayed at the break. The second half was a tighter affair with both teams working hard for possession. The Worthys back four looked in control, Harry Lewis battling well to win most headers coming his way. When the backline was breeched, the excellent Ben Allen was tracking back to ensure Jordan Banks had a comfortable second half. Hat-trick Patrick for the second week running followed a mazy run at the Bishops Waltham defence and when one on one with the keeper there was only going to be one result. Five One to Worthys now. Credit to Bishops Waltham though, they continued to press hard for a way back in the game and restricted Worthys to few chances for the rest of the match. With 10 minutes to go though Patrick O'Mara found space on the left hand side and from his chip, Toby Sanders angled a great header past the home keeper to make the score Six. Several great individual performances today and so two men of the match medals were awarded. Firstly for Patrick O'Mara - back to his old self and secondly to Ben Allen who never put a foot wrong all game.

10/10/09 Warsash Wasps A 7-0

Worthys travelled to Mid- Solent team Warsash Wasps for this second round Hampshire Cup tie. Despite losing Charlie Sherwood through a broken collarbone Worthys still fielded a strong team led by captain for the day Sam Carr. The first 5 minutes or so was taken up with both teams battling hard in the middle of the park. Once Worthys started to control their passing the first goal of the game was created. Charlie Bell to Kane Orchard to Charlie Bell who released Patrick O'Mara for a run into the box. O'Mara making no mistake with a low drive. Buoyed by the early goal Worthys continued to press the home team defence and it wasn`t long before Patrick O'Mara made it two with a shot riffled into the net from just inside the box. Hat-trick for Patrick occurred after 20 minutes when a long ball caught out the home team and there was O'Mara to smash the ball in off the underside of the bar. At three nil the pace slowed with a shot from Sam Carr and long distance strikes from Kane Orchard and Ciaran McCullagh being the only opportunities over the next quarter of an hour. After 35 minutes, a clever chest down by Sam Carr ended with a corner from another Kane Orchard strike. A great corner delivery from Kingsley Farrington enabled Charlie Bell to rise highest in the box to power a header passed the keeper. Four nil to Worthys is how it stayed until the break. Four soon became five early in the second half when Patrick O'Mara teased the home defence before chipping a great goal for his fourth of the tie.
The best move of the match - Ryan Johnston to Kane Orchard who found Ben Clarke on the right. An inch perfect cross to Patrick O'Mara which the home keeper did well to save. A missed Worthys penalty was soon forgotten when good work by Alex Watton released Patrick O'Mara on the left, as the initial shot was blocked there was Sam Carr on the edge of the D to belt the ball home for goal number six.
Toby Sanders, not to be outdone after hitting the woodwork with a header, finished the scoring with a nice drive across the keeper to send Worthys into seventh heaven. A refreshing performance after the tough start in the league. All things good about Worthys play came through the excellent Kane Orchard who was a deserved man on the match.

03/10/09 Shipton Bellinger Rams A A 2-2

After our last meeting with Shipton Bellinger on 12th September, Worthy’s were keen to go away with a win or at least a draw. We made the 30min drive to the cold and windy but beautiful surroundings of the village of Shipton Bellinger in Wiltshire. After 15mins of gentle sparring Sam Carr scored a 40 yards screamer into the top right corner of the net, what a cracking shot. 3 minutes later Shipton retaliated with a belter from outside of the box, the score now one a piece. 26 minutes in and Charles Sherwood sized the opportunity to run for goal and scored, two one to Worthy’s, out heads high and ready for a win? Just before half time, Charles Sherwood went on another run, but found his shirt being pulled and to or dismay he was booked for dissent, a first for us, I believe. Patrick O’Mara passed to Sam Carr and the goalie saved, leaving us ready for more after the half time team talk. In the second half the sun shone, the wind blew and “we were well up for it” said Nick Allen! Safe hands Jordan Banks made a handful of great saves to keep us in the game. Patrick O’Mara made three attempts at goal with little result, Shipton were very strong in defence. 27 minutes in, we had a handball incident and Shipton almost scored. Relief, we were ready to take the final half to a win. But alas, Shipton made the break 37 minutes in and scored, making it 2 all. The team battled had and were unlucky not to make the break and win. A draw gives us points on the board, ready for our next game.

26/09/09 Hatch Warren Phoenix H 0-6

Worthys entertained high flying Hatch Warren for this division one fixture. In bright sunshine Worthys started brightly forcing the first two corners of the game and with Toby Sanders testing the home keeper with a good drive.
Hatch Warren though moved the ball well and were quickly into their stride when counter attacking. From one Worthy corner the away team broke quickly to force a smart save from Jordan Banks. Finishing was certainly the key difference between the two teams, a great strike from the edge of the box gave Jordan no chance to open the scoring for Hatch Warren. Kane Orchard and Sam Carr were battling well in the middle of the park but could do little to prevent a long distance strike that flew into the top corner for two nil.
With the confidence of a two goal cushion Hatch Warren certainly played the better football although a Patrick O'Mara break ended with his shot unluckily deflected to finish just wide. Ciaran McCullagh saved a certain goal with a last ditch clearance but you felt it was only a matter of time before the pressure paid off. A left foot strike from inside the area gave the away side a three goal lead at half time. In the second half Worthys stuck to their guns and battled hard for a way back into the game, a Charles Sherwood shot going narrowly wide was the best effort for the home team in the early exchanges. An outstanding strike though gave Jordan no chance and at four nil the game was over from a result perspective. A flowing move between Ryan Johnston, Kingsley Farrington and Patrick O'Mara down the right flank almost led to a deserved consolation goal but the final shot found the side netting. Two well taken late strikes emphasised the difference in finishing between the teams. Jordan Banks despite conceding six was the deserving man of the match for a commanding approach to his play.

19/09/09 Amesbury Town A 0-4

A patched up Worthys side travelled to excellent facilities at Amesbury Town for this division one game. The early exchanges were an even affair although it was Worthys that had the first attempts on goal. A Sam Carr shot and a strike from Charlie Bell were both wide of the mark. Amesbury started to impose themselves on the game with slick passing moves down the flanks. Jordan Banks was in commanding shot stopping form and dealt with the increasing pressure on the visitors goal. Worthys still managed to break out from defence and strong running from Charles Sherwood kept the home defence on their toes. Against the run of play Worthys had the best chance of the match after 25 minutes when Kingsley Farrington found himself unmarked on the penalty spot. With the home defence closing his shot screwed narrowly wide. After 30 minutes a break down the Worthys left flank produced the opening goal for Amesbury Town. A mix up in defence following a low cross gave the home team a simple tap in. Worthys were grateful to Jordan Banks who produced two fine saves before the half-time whistle. One nil at half time. At the start of the second period Amesbury caught Worthys napping with a short corner. The resultant cross was headed past Jordan Banks for a two nil advantage. For a period of 15 minutes after the goal Amesbury turned up the tempo and the style as quick passing led to two further goals, although the last of these was with a hint of off side. Four nil down gave Worthys an impossible task to recover from. However, they stuck to their guns with Harry Lewis and Charlie Bell competing fiercely for every ball. As the home team stepped off the gas, Worthys created a few chances the best producing a world class save from a Sam Carr strike from outside the box. Four nil it finished and for his never say die attitude Harry Lewis was awarded the Worthys man of the match medal.

Shipton Bellinger Rams A

 H

 2-3

Worthys opened their league campaign with a home game against a good Shipton Bellinger side. The away team looked the sharpest at the start, passing the ball well to build pressure. The first real chance was against the run of play when Toby Sanders ran on to a flick by Patrick O'Mara only to shoot narrowly wide. The game had few chances until 10 minutes before the break. Toby Sanders with great persistence won the ball to release to Charles Sherwood in the centre of the goal. As the home defence closed in Patrick O'Mara chased through and finished well from a tight angle to make it 1-0 to the Worthys. This remained the score at half time. The second period with the heat of the day taking its effect was more open. O'Mara went close early on, narrowly chipping over the bar as the away keeper advanced. Shortly after, good pressure from Charles Sherwood won Worthys a throw deep in the Shipton half. From the resultant throw by Charlie Bell, Ben Allen reacted well to head past the stranded goalkeeper. 2-0 to the Worthys. Life in Division One looked good at this stage. Within a minute of the restart Shipton were back in the game. AN excellent turn and shot on the edge of the area gave Jordon Banks no chance. Worthys had an early chance to restore their lead shortly afterwards but were left ruing the miss when Shipton broke through a static Worthys defence to tie the game up two a piece. The easiest chance of the game went begging for Worthys after they failed to convert from close range following excellent work from Toby Sanders on the right flank. Again Worthys were left to curse their finishing when Shipton caught the home defence out once again to convert from just inside the box. 2-3 to Shipton Bellinger and with Worthys running out of steam as an attacking force this is how the game finished. For grit and determination to win the ball in midfield and up front Toby Sanders won the man of the match medal.

 Upper Clatford (friendly)

 A

 4-0

Upper Clatford provided a good test for Worthys in advance of the new season. Fielding two new players, Charlie Bell and Ben Clarke, Worthys started the brighter of the two teams. Good movement up front and good use of the ball by the midfield quartet enabled Worthys to dictate play for long periods. Chances were hard to come by in the first 25 minutes but an excellent ball over the top by Sam Carr had Patrick O'Mara in on goal to open up his account with a shot from just inside the box. At the start of the second period, Worthys were quickly into their stride, using the ball intelligently as they applied pressure. Two quick goals from Sam Carr and Ben Clarke allowed the away team the comfort of a three goal cushion. Although Clatford responded well forcing Jordon Banks in to one or two smart saves, Worthys always looked in control. It was no surprise when Ben Clarke bagged his second goal of the game when he reacted quickest to a loose ball from a corner. Four - nil was how it finished for a decisive victory. Charles Sherwood for his constant running on and off the ball was the deserving man of the match.
