Worthys U11s
Testway Youth Football League
U11s Div 2 – Sat 08.12.07
Worthys YFC 3, Wolversdene B 2
Worthys at home won the toss and elected to run downhill ,but against the strong wind and rain. The early barrage of attack by Wolversdene unsettled the Worthys defence and Wolversdene tucked one away early. Wolversdene kept up the pressure and a weaving ball dribble past the Worthys defenders allowed the Wolversdene midfielder space to strike another goal about 5 minutes before half-time.
Worthys came back after the break with fresh striker Eddie Amos who slipped the ball past the Wolversdene keeper . Worthys second came from Shane McCullaghs low, hard corner kick skidding into the box and richochetting off a Wolversdene defender into his own net. Wolversdene responded with sharp attacks, but a shot from Shane McCullagh 1 minute from full-time sealed a 3-2 victory for Worthys in a very evenly- matched fixture.
Brad Page had a corker match as goalkeeper and thwarted several promising Wolversdene attacks. The defensive trio of Joe Smith, Jack Hoyland and Brandon Mitchell tightened up in the second half allowing Shane and George in midfield to initiate some promising attacking moves. Caspar’s long throw-ins wrought havoc in the Wolversdene defence and created clear opportunities, which we just missed. Jo and Matt kept up the attacking pressure and Matt stepped into top gear in the second half to prove more than a handful for Wolversdene defenders. Man of the Match went to Brad Page. Well done lads – we’re pulling back into good form.
Match report – 1 Dec 07
Worthys 1 away to Hampton Park 2
Sadly we could not reproduce the form and energy of our last outing against the league leaders and went down to middle order Hampton Park in a lacklustre game.
However, there were a few periods of excellent play where the Worthys team clearly showed that the open, widespread game suits them. In particular, Brad collected the ball as goalkeeper and was quick to use his penalty area and punt the ball forward for a head flick on from Matt Cooper to Joe Conroy running forward. Joe ran with the ball on goal persued by a Hampton defender but the final touch went just wide as the Hampton keeper advanced to block.
Brad Page was very brave in goal today, standing firm during goal mouth scrambles and coming forward to put off the attacking Hampton forwards. Well done Brad who received the Man of the Match award today.

Worthys 1, Bishops Waltham B 1
Worthys YFC were away to league leaders Bishops Waltham Dynamos B in the return leg of fixtures. From the outset Worthys blitzed the Dynamos goal with several piercing attacks and well worked set-play moves. Dynamos responded with near misses on the Worthys goal and gave new keeper, Brad Page, an awesome testing.
Worthys opened the score midway in the half, through Shane McCullagh, from the penalty spot after an unfortunate handball incident and kept up the relentless pressure to the half-time break.
Dynamos returned in the second half with the energy of cup tie finalists and quickly levelled the score. Both sides were determined to pile on attacking pressure. This opened up the game much to the delight of spectators. Opportunities fell to both sides in the end-to-end rallies, but the final whistle blew with the 1-1 scoreline.
George Leigh had an outstanding first half in his role linking between midfield and attack. His solid overall performance earned him the Man of the Match award.
A great team effort by all was well rewarded. Worthys players are working their set-play throwins and corners very well now.
Worthys 1 – Tidworth Royals 5
In their first match since the departures of Cameron Morris (goalkeeper) and Adam Norman (left-sided midfield/attack) to foreign shores, Worthys faced Tidworth Royals at home on a cold and damp morning. Worthys - playing down the slope in the first half - started brightly in a competitive opening and, with three minutes played, Shane McCullagh latched onto a neat through-ball from Caspar Larcombe and finished tidily to give Worthys the early lead.
Worthys had further chances falling to Matthew Cooper and Shane McCullagh but Tidworth remained competitive and just before half-time they forced the ball into the net from a corner to level the score at the break.
The second half started badly for the Worthys with Tidworth scoring a goal after two minutes following a canny and mazy run from a Tidworth midfielder. Caspar Larcombe then had a good run and shot on the Tidworth goal but the score remained 1-2 in favour of Tidworth.
A sharp finish saw Tidworth extend their lead to 1-3 on twelve minutes followed by a fourth goal a minute later with the ball being coolly slotted through the Worthy keeper’s legs. With heads high Tidworth grabbed a fifth goal shortly thereafter and there was no way back for the Worthys.

Worthys YFC 1, Braishfield 1
Worthys at home won the toss and thought the advantage of the downhill slope and strong wind would provide early goals. But Braishfield thought otherwise and provided a rigorous, solid defence against the constant Worthys attack. Worthys worked the 2 man short corner well to provide shooting opportunities, but couldn’t find the back of the Braishfield goal.
The strong wind continued and now Worthys were on the back foot with Braishfield attacking relentlessly and eventually breaking the deadlock with their first goal 5 minutes from full time. Worthys fought back immediately to equalise through a breakaway run and shot by Adam Norman. Bon Voyage and best wishes to Adam Norman (moving to USA ) and goalkeeper, Cameron Morris (moving to Australia ).

Worthys YFC 4 v Wolversdene A 1
This league cup tie began with sustained pressure from the Worthys attack with shots on the Wolversdene goal saved, parried and turned behind by some excellent reaction goalkeeping. Wolversdene responded with swift counterattacks and the game opened up with linked passing moves from both sides. Worthys opened the scoring with a low, hard 15 yard shot from central midfielder, Caspar Larcombe. Just before the half time whistle a shot from left mid-fielder, Adam Norman, took a deflection and landed at the feet of Matt Cooper in front of goal who tucked it away for Worthys second goal.
At the restart Worthys continued their attack and Joe Conroy broke through the Wolversdene defence to run with the ball and thread it past an advancing keeper.
Wolversdene struck back with a sustained attack and drew back one goal. Worthys defence trio of Joe Smith, Jack Hoyland and Brad Page played a canny offside defence to foil several promising Wolversdene attacks. Rather against the run of play, Worthys attacker Joe Conroy scored from the long throw in of Caspar Larcombe to seal the game 4-1

Worthys U11’s 7, Bishops Waltham Dynamos C 1
Saturday saw Worthys YFC host Bishops Waltham C in a game that had it all. It was Worthys that drew first blood when Casper Larcombe turned the Dynamos defence first left then right before slotting the ball past the Dynamos keeper. At 1-0, Worthys seemed in control of the game, but against the run of play, a fast break down the left saw the ball fall to Samuel Summers of Dynamos who fired home to draw level. Straight from the restart, Worthys were 2-1 up when Adam Norman took on three players down the left wing before driving a low ball under the Dynamos keeper. Adam made it 3-1 when another fierce shot from the edge of the area gave the Dynamos keeper no chance. Matthew Cooper came close to making it 4 with a spectacular bicycle kick, only to see the Dynamos keeper react quickly and palm it over the bar. Just before half-time Worthys got their fourth, when Shane McCullagh received a pass on the edge of the penalty area and unleashed a low, hard shot to the corner of Dynamos goal.
Worthys brought on 3 pairs of fresh legs for the second half. Excellent play between Bradley Page at right defence and George Leigh at right midfield created space again and again down the right wing with George crossing the ball deep into the penalty area. From one of these moves an ensuing goalmouth scramble saw Joe Conroy force the ball over the line. Worthys were now in free flow and when the ball fell to Shane McCullagh he had time to control the ball and place his shot low in the dynamos goal left corner. At 6-1 Worthys weren’t quite finished, a clearance from Worthys defence was deftly flicked on by Shane into the path of Eddie Amos, whose speed and outstretched foot was enough to guide the ball into the back of Dynamos net
Good defensive worked by Jack Hoyland, Brandon Mitchell and Joe Smith limited Dynamo’s chances, but the ones they had were dealt with confidently by Cameron Morris in goal. A great all round team performance. Man of the match was awarded to captain Adam Norman for his tireless runs down the left wing, leading the team by example and two great goals.

Test Valley Lions(1) vs Worthys U11 (0)
The match with Test Valley Lions was a real corker with end-to-end
play on a pitch that was barely smaller than a full-size ground.
Worthys YFC won the toss and captain Adam Norman elected to take the
kickoff with Worthys running slightly uphill. The first minutes looked
very promisingfor Worthys, but Test Valley sneaked an early goal
against the run of play from a corner kick that seemed to just trickle
past everyone straight from the kicker.
Test Valley had sharp, fast forwards who repeated tested the Worthys
defense of Brandon Mitchell, Jack Hoyland and Brad Page. Worthys
keeper, Cameron Morris, kept the Worthys in the match with fine saves
from the breakaway runs of the Test Valley Lions forwards.
Worthys began the second half in fine spirit and a storming run from
central midfielder, Caspar Larcombe, took the ball into the opposition
6 yard box where the ball bobbled about endlessly, but just wouldn't go
in the net.
A free kick soon after, taken by Adam Norman was rocketed high towards
goal and was well defended by the Lions to deny the Worthys an
equaliser.
There were great combinations of passes by players of both teams. In
particular, a goal kick taken quickly by Cameron Morris to Brad Page
was then passed up the wing to Joe Smith who touched the ball inside to
Caspar Larcombe. Joe turned and sprinted forward to receive the return
pass from Caspar and carried the ball further upfield before a Lions
defender intervened. The final score in a very entertaining and
enjoyable game for players and spectators was 1 - 0 in favour of the
Lions.
